Hunting for George

I have decided that it is time to makeover my bedroom. It is waaaaaay overdue for a change and I’m having so much fun picking out homewares! I’ve stumbled across Hunting for George who are a local label and create some amazing bed linen ranges of their own as well as being a stockist for some other amazing labels such as Kip & Co.

I have created the looks I’m thinking about below.

I am seriously obsessed with the bright ‘Islander’ quilt (in chat reuse with white triangles) along with the sheet set in the reverse colour way. The other choice is a gorgeous grey linen cover from H&M Home paired with the bright islander sheets. The two blue options are the ‘Real living’ quilt on the left and the Kip & Co velvet on the right. Loving how plush the velvet looks!

Any ideas? Check out Hunting for George and their gorgeous ranges!

Lily and the Weasel

Finally, another store you can go and visit! There have been requests for more bricks-and-mortar stores in and around Melbourne to visit! Here you go-

Lily and the Weasel
Visited this little gem recently, it is the shining light amongst the somewhat questionable Swan Street. The perfect store for gifts, I adore their range of ceramics unique kids items. I was after a Kim Wallace Ceramics platter for a gift, I kind of wanted to avoid the postage charge from ordering online (don’t we all- it all adds up!) so hunted down where they were stocked in Melbourne. Surprise surprise I did not leave with the platter as intended but some other beautiful mugs and some serving dishes. My absolute favourites are the crisp white dishes with little sparrow sitting on the side and bright glaze on the inside of the bowl. Simply stunning. There are many great Australian brands in the store including Emily Green‘s necklaces, Angus and Celeste ceramics, Weasel soft toys and Victoria Mason jewellery just to name a few. There is also quite a homage to the area with skipping girl bookends and items vintage printed with the Richmond postcode. Very Melbourne.

A mix of pictures from the Lily and the Weasel website show some of their amazing products, it is definitely worth a visit!

New branding and back into posts next week!

Welcome to the beginning of the new site! Ok so it is just the branding done for now but over the next while I hope to bring many exciting new things! I’d love your feedback on the new branding- I certainly never knew so much thought and consideration was put into graphic design! Luckily I had a friend working on it for me and when she explained the thought behind the concept is great! The font is like a cut gem- because this blog is about finding and sharing ‘gems’! Let me know what you think!

Quickly just another small post on somewhere worth visiting this weekend-

Earlier in the year I wrote about The Super Cool (check it out here) and if you have checked them out since then you would know that they have pretty unique props and visual merchandising (not to mention the awesome stock they sell!). This weekend The SuperCool are having a garage sale out of their South Melbourne Market stall and selling not only old stock but old visual merch props! This means vintage crates, rocking horse, ladders and suitcases amongst other vintage inspired items! It will be so worth checking out to grab some unique items!

Find this sale at The SuperCool- South Melbourne Market October 12 &13th, 8am-4pm!

Goods by Grinn

Goods by Grinn
Like the multitude of other finds, I can’t remember how I came across this company, they have just kind appeared recently! There are loads of cushions out there at a million and one stores, and I love the different textures such as knits out there this season! But I have been searching for some less over the top cushions that are unique, cause I’m all about being unique!

Even though this company is based in the USA, as you know I am always keen to support smaller businesses! (and they ship to Oz!)

These guys do a small range of cushions, and no one you know will have the same! I’m in love with the colour palettes and simple designs, and all the patterns are original and custom only to Goods by Grinn.

I’m really into blues and gold at the moment so I’m loving the gold spot cushion and the blue geometric cushions the best! Pair these with a knitted or textured pillow and maybe a woodland animal printed one (vintage inspired deer/elk or even elephant prints are amazing and pretty easy to find!) and you have got a nice stylish little cushion corner!

I have some other soft furnishing labels that do rad and over the top cushions to show you at another time, but Goods by Grinn is way more ‘me’ so it gets first go! The Super Cool also have some amzing cushions that would compliment these colours so check them out as well! Cushions are such an easy way to bring colour and change into a space so take a look and spice up your own living areas!

The New York Tea Company

New York Tea Company
A tea, is a tea, is a tea you say? Not really. Once you’ve been spoilt with good quality tea, it is hard to go back. My taste was spoilt by Fortnum and Mason in England, an enormous and oh-so-English tea store in Piccadilly that has been around forever. In Australia, the biggest and easiest tea store to get to is T2. Personally I find that store like most other tea stores too overwhelming for choice. So that’s why when I stumbled across this little company, I am very excited to give it a go!

Despite the name, this is actually a Melbourne based company that runs an online boutique tea store.

The thing I love about this little company is all the tea mixes have a purpose with nutritional benefits. The New York Tea Company has started off with a Diet tea and Detox Cleanse mixes, but excitedly is extending their lines with lime and coconut as well as green rose! Despite the names, they are really just tea that are thoughtfully and deliberately mixed with other ingredients to be rich in antioxidants, nutrients and minerals. (They have a break down of the nutritional benefits on their site). If I could get some added nutritional benefit from drinking my daily cuppa then I’m totally interested! I have a friend who has had the detox tea and feels great!

As they have just started out, I expect the range to grown and I’m excited to see what is coming next! How great is Melbourne and all it’s emerging ideas and labels?!! So much fun finding them and following through their success!

The Woodsfolk

The Woodsfolk
It only opened earlier in the year but already this has to be one of my new absolute favourite stores. And its so close to my work in Hawthorn that I can pop in whenever! Every time I head in here I just want one of everything and this is little to no exaggeration. I finally acknowledged I’m slightly obsessed with woodland creatures at the moment so it is no wonder I love this store because it is such an earthy, quirky, woody, homey store that oozes class in a modern old fashioned kind of way. A bit oxymoronic but true!

The Woodsfolk has a really old-fashioned family service feel, possibly also because they had a colouring competition over easter for kids AND adults which is just so cool and reminded me of when I was growing up, they were all the rage.

The store is mainly homewares and decorations, including the felt balls rugs which i adore so much. Even better they have a couch with felt balls as the feature buttons, and felt ball garlands. There are not multiples of everything so its almost a little bit like walking into a well styled and bountiful home where you can just happen to buy that cushion that you’re leaning on or the rug you are walking upon. Soft furnishings, art prints, stationary, kitchenware, books, pompoms, fabric feather dream catchers, scarves, fur chairs, candles… um shall I go on?

I just about died when I saw the kids felt coats with hoods like different animals. Absolutely adorable. None of that stuffy polyester fluffy ‘bear’ but real classic lions and bunnies.

Have you got the gist yet how much I’m in love with this place? Even their website and blog are seriously inspiring, the styling and photography of the store and products are amazing. Definitely worth having a peek!

Visit The Woodsfolk in store at 39 Church Street, Hawthorn and online here

The day or two after I discovered The Woodsfolk, The Design Files blogged about it. Once again I felt like she has beaten me to all my good ideas. Haha! Because The Design Files is also a brilliant blog and they take all their own amazing pictures, you can check out her story on the store here.

*I take no credit for these amazing photos, all photos were sourced from The Woodsfolk site
