New branding and back into posts next week!

Welcome to the beginning of the new site! Ok so it is just the branding done for now but over the next while I hope to bring many exciting new things! I’d love your feedback on the new branding- I certainly never knew so much thought and consideration was put into graphic design! Luckily I had a friend working on it for me and when she explained the thought behind the concept is great! The font is like a cut gem- because this blog is about finding and sharing ‘gems’! Let me know what you think!

Quickly just another small post on somewhere worth visiting this weekend-

Earlier in the year I wrote about The Super Cool (check it out here) and if you have checked them out since then you would know that they have pretty unique props and visual merchandising (not to mention the awesome stock they sell!). This weekend The SuperCool are having a garage sale out of their South Melbourne Market stall and selling not only old stock but old visual merch props! This means vintage crates, rocking horse, ladders and suitcases amongst other vintage inspired items! It will be so worth checking out to grab some unique items!

Find this sale at The SuperCool- South Melbourne Market October 12 &13th, 8am-4pm!

Kini Swimwear

I earlier in the year I came across this brilliant Australian business and since it is warming up I thought now was the time to share! I LOVE this idea!!

Kini Swimwear-
How many of us do not fit the regular two piece bikinis, tankinis or whatever swimwear sizes are out there? Need a different size top to bottom? Do you know what you like but just can’t find it? Kini Swimwear may be your answer! (sorry that sounds like a tele-sales pitch) This brilliant idea lets you pick from two piece, tankini or one piece and choose the style, cup shape, embellishment and fabric, then colour it in how ever you like! How great is that?!! The combinations are almost endless! It end up being about the same as buying a pair of Seafolly but the best part is you have something that you have chosen in a style and colour that suits you!! I have spent so long playing around with colours, trims, frills and styles! Have a go, its so fun! I have added pics below of a few designs I came up with just to demonstrate a few of the options. There is a full size guide as well which is very helpful!

Let me know what you come up with!

Such Great Heights

Such Great Heights
Teepee’s and tents are popping up everywhere lately! The Woodsfolk have an amazing teepee in store at the moment and I mentioned the amazing teepee by Pinkey Square a few weeks ago.  It’s all in good fun, and it is so great to see them made both child size and big enough for adults! This amazing child sized find was passed on to me by a friend and I completely love it and have to share!

Such Great Heights makes amazing child size tents. One of the reasons I love them so much is that it encourages imaginary play, none of that computer and battery operated crap! Oh and they are handmade in Adelaide with hardwood and amazing fabrics and can even be converted to a clothes rack when not being used as a tent! One of the great things about these tents rather than teepees is the practicality of them. They are a better shape to pack up and store than a teepee and can be easily popped up inside or even outside on a sunny day. Such Great Heights have continued encouraging creative play with a range of ‘adventure capes’. These are amazingly cute and would make a great gift! I love the little red riding hood inspired cape! After seeing the amazing photos below its hard not to check out their website, you will be inspired and jealous that kids have such amazing items available to them these days!

The New York Tea Company

New York Tea Company
A tea, is a tea, is a tea you say? Not really. Once you’ve been spoilt with good quality tea, it is hard to go back. My taste was spoilt by Fortnum and Mason in England, an enormous and oh-so-English tea store in Piccadilly that has been around forever. In Australia, the biggest and easiest tea store to get to is T2. Personally I find that store like most other tea stores too overwhelming for choice. So that’s why when I stumbled across this little company, I am very excited to give it a go!

Despite the name, this is actually a Melbourne based company that runs an online boutique tea store.

The thing I love about this little company is all the tea mixes have a purpose with nutritional benefits. The New York Tea Company has started off with a Diet tea and Detox Cleanse mixes, but excitedly is extending their lines with lime and coconut as well as green rose! Despite the names, they are really just tea that are thoughtfully and deliberately mixed with other ingredients to be rich in antioxidants, nutrients and minerals. (They have a break down of the nutritional benefits on their site). If I could get some added nutritional benefit from drinking my daily cuppa then I’m totally interested! I have a friend who has had the detox tea and feels great!

As they have just started out, I expect the range to grown and I’m excited to see what is coming next! How great is Melbourne and all it’s emerging ideas and labels?!! So much fun finding them and following through their success!

Find it here: The New York Tea Company

Looks delish even dry like this! So colourful!

The Woodsfolk

The Woodsfolk
It only opened earlier in the year but already this has to be one of my new absolute favourite stores. And its so close to my work in Hawthorn that I can pop in whenever! Every time I head in here I just want one of everything and this is little to no exaggeration. I finally acknowledged I’m slightly obsessed with woodland creatures at the moment so it is no wonder I love this store because it is such an earthy, quirky, woody, homey store that oozes class in a modern old fashioned kind of way. A bit oxymoronic but true!

The Woodsfolk has a really old-fashioned family service feel, possibly also because they had a colouring competition over easter for kids AND adults which is just so cool and reminded me of when I was growing up, they were all the rage.

The store is mainly homewares and decorations, including the felt balls rugs which i adore so much. Even better they have a couch with felt balls as the feature buttons, and felt ball garlands. There are not multiples of everything so its almost a little bit like walking into a well styled and bountiful home where you can just happen to buy that cushion that you’re leaning on or the rug you are walking upon. Soft furnishings, art prints, stationary, kitchenware, books, pompoms, fabric feather dream catchers, scarves, fur chairs, candles… um shall I go on?

I just about died when I saw the kids felt coats with hoods like different animals. Absolutely adorable. None of that stuffy polyester fluffy ‘bear’ but real classic lions and bunnies.

Have you got the gist yet how much I’m in love with this place? Even their website and blog are seriously inspiring, the styling and photography of the store and products are amazing. Definitely worth having a peek!

Visit The Woodsfolk in store at 39 Church Street, Hawthorn and online here

The day or two after I discovered The Woodsfolk, The Design Files blogged about it. Once again I felt like she has beaten me to all my good ideas. Haha! Because The Design Files is also a brilliant blog and they take all their own amazing pictures, you can check out her story on the store here.

*I take no credit for these amazing photos, all photos were sourced from The Woodsfolk site

See the gorgeous little felt lion coat?!!

Party In The Box

I’m excited to share what I think is a brilliant business, kind of leaves you wishing you had thought of the idea! To top off such a great business there is even a special deal for Road Of The Curious readers! Read on!

Party In The Box
Have you got a birthday coming up? A kids birthday? A themed party? Baby shower? Any event? Well then this is about to help you out big time!

Party In The Box started up at the beginning of 2012 and judging by the how the party ranges keep growing and growing, business is good!

The idea is great- a one stop internet shop for all party supplies. Your entire party can be put together in the one spot- from invites and balloons and tablecloths everything you may need in between to arrive to your door all boxed and ready to go!

You can choose one of the ready made party boxes that come with everything you will need for a party (minus the food), and these can be as basic or deluxe as you choose. There are great ranges from children’s licensed characters such as Spiderman, Cars and Thomas the Tank Engine to soccer, princess, ladybug and pirate themes! But its not just for the kids, there are also colour themed sets for any occasion- the pink or blue would be great for a baby shower, or the black and white for a Collingwood party (shuddering as I say that, ahh football), or mixing the green and yellow sets for an Australia Day party! Endless options! Below I have put together some pics of party boxes, but keep in mind there are plenty more to choose from and many more neutral coloured and themed options, I just went with displaying two boy and girl options!

There is also the option to ‘build a box’ where you can add in the items you want to create your own box. Does this not sound like an awesome idea rather than running around to multiple shops to buy all the bits and pieces for a party?? There is even ready made party bags for you to add in! Its like someone doing most of the planning and coordinating of party supplies for you! And it works out to be excellent value too! All this, shipped to your door anywhere in Australia.

Make sure you check it out, I know a lot of little ones with birthdays coming up mid year and this just makes so much sense to have an organised, fun, colourful party that is great value and all done for you! The website even has party tips, recipes and theme ideas!

Party In The Box have generously offered 10% off for Road Of The Curious Readers who order before May 2nd! Just enter roadofthecurious at checkout!

Visit the website here and find them on Facebook here
I hope you love this business as much as I do! x

Above are just a couple of pieces I placed together from different categories to show how easily it is to pick your own items and still have them coordinate!

Scarf Community at Three Bags Full

So a bit of a different post this week.

Firstly, if you are in Melbourne you must get down to Finders Keepers market! Its on Friday night 6-10pm and all Saturday. This market features some amazing products and designers! You can click their name for their website or I’ll put the flyer up at the bottom of the post!

Scarf Community at Three Bags Full
I’m a massive foodie, and Three Bags Full in Abbortsford is one of my most favourite places for their food and coffee, but it is also one of the most aesthetically amazing spaces as well! So when I heard about Scarf Community using Three Bags for a month for their dinners I was stoked!

Scarf Community is an organisation that uses quality restaurants to provide hands on training to equip young people with skills in hospitality. This unique idea is training up migrants and refugees among others to give them the skills and networks to get the job they want. Dinners are cooked by Chef Ricky Holt and the menu for the next month looks amazing.

I’d take any excuse to get out with some friends and eat amazing food, but this tops them all. Check out their site and menu and let me know if you end up going! Its on at Three Bags Full every Monday night from 8th April to the 6th May. Book on the website!
